Generating your Lead Story…

How to Curate Your LinkedInTimeline and Build a Winning Network

If you’ve ever scrolled through your feed and felt uninspired, you’re not alone. Most timelines are cluttered with stale quotes, random billboards, and content from “influencers” that doesn’t resonate with your goals. The truth is, your feed is a reflection of your actions. If you don’t curate it intentionally, algorithms will do it for you and they rarely get it right.

Here’s the good news: you have full control over what you see and who you engage with. If you want to transform your timeline into a powerful tool for learning, networking, and opportunity, you need a plan. After years in recruitment and building professional networks online, I’ve learned a simple system that will completely reshape your feed in 1–2 months.

Step 1: Comment on 15 pieces of relevant content per day

Stop lurking and start engaging. Identify 15 posts from professionals in your space and leave thoughtful comments. Don’t just write “great post!” but add perspective, insight, or a follow-up question. This positions you as an active voice in your industry and starts building familiarity with people who matter. The algorithm also rewards this behaviour by showing you more of what you interact with.

Step 2: Follow 10–15 new people in your field daily

Your network is your ecosystem. By consistently following new people in your niche such as industry leaders, rising voices, and peers, you’re telling the platform what you want to see. This creates a fresh flow of ideas and opportunities and exposes you to discussions that actually help your career.

Step 3: Create content that blends education with personal positioning

Posting tips and insights is great, but here’s the key: always let people know what you do. If you’re in recruitment, marketing, or product, your content should educate and remind people of your role in the space. This builds authority and generates opportunities because your network can now connect your value to their needs.

Step 4: Join the conversations of industry leaders

When leaders in your industry post something that’s gaining traction, jump in. Adding value to threads not only gets you noticed by the original poster but also by the hundreds or thousands of people reading those comments. It’s one of the fastest ways to expand visibility without running paid ads or chasing engagement pods.

Step 5: Send 5 strategic messages per day

Direct messages are where real relationships are built. Tailor the tone based on who you’re reaching out to casual for peers, professional for leaders, curious for potential mentors. These touch-points are how comments and follows turn into meaningful conversations, collaborations, or even career opportunities.

Do this consistently for one to two months and watch what happens. Your timeline will transform from a random scroll into a curated network of winners such as people who inspire, challenge, and open doors. No more stale quotes. No more forced engagement. Just a feed that reflects the career and connections you actually want to build.
