Recruitment Made Easy’s 1-Year Anniversary Newsletter

As we celebrate our one-year anniversary, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared in the recruitment and hiring industries. Over the past year, we’ve navigated a rapidly changing landscape, and I’m excited to share some optimistic insights as we move forward, especially as we approach the post-Labor Day season.

Hiring Picking Up After Labor Day

Historically, the period after Labor Day marks a significant uptick in hiring (20-25%) activities across various industries. This year is no exception. Companies are refocusing on their year-end goals, filling crucial roles, and ramping up recruitment efforts. We’re already seeing increased activity in sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, and finance, where the demand for skilled professionals is surging.

What This Means for Job Seekers:

Manufacturing: As Manufacturing companies push to innovate and expand, roles in development, machining, and continuous improvement are on the rise. If you have skills in these areas, now is the time to polish your resume and start applying.

Healthcare: With an ongoing focus on healthcare improvements, there’s a growing need for professionals in medical technology, nursing, and healthcare administration. If you’re in this field, consider targeting organizations that are expanding their operations or implementing new technologies.

Finance: As businesses adapt to new economic realities, financial roles—especially in auditing, financial planning, and risk management—are becoming increasingly important. This sector is ripe for job seekers with the right qualifications.

Where to Spend Your Time Job Searching

1. Networking on LinkedIn:

LinkedIn remains a powerful tool for job seekers. Whether you’re connecting with industry professionals, engaging in relevant discussions, or showcasing your expertise through posts, spending time on LinkedIn can significantly increase your visibility. For example, candidates who consistently share industry insights and participate in groups often find themselves being approached by recruiters.

2. Industry-Specific Job Boards:

While general job boards are useful, niche job boards that cater to specific industries can yield better results. Sites like Dice for tech jobs, Health eCareers for healthcare, and eFinancialCareers for finance provide targeted opportunities. We’ve seen job seekers who focus on these platforms landing interviews faster than those using broader job boards.

3. Company Career Pages:

Directly visiting the career pages of companies you’re interested in can be highly effective. Many organizations post openings on their own sites before listing them on job boards. This strategy is particularly effective in the tech and finance sectors, where companies are eager to attract top talent directly.

What’s Working and What’s Not

What’s Working:

Personalized Applications: Tailoring your resume and cover letter to the specific job you’re applying for is still one of the most effective ways to get noticed. Generic applications are often overlooked, but when candidates take the time to align their experience with the job description, they see better responses.

My favorite example for recruiters is from Sam Struan who nails this in the personal summary section

Skill Development: Continuous learning is proving to be a major differentiator. Job seekers who invest in online courses, certifications, or attending webinars relevant to their industry are more attractive to employers. For instance, professionals in digital marketing who keep up with the latest trends and tools are seeing more job offers.

What’s Not Working:

Applying Without Networking: Sending out applications without making connections within the company is becoming less effective. Networking remains crucial, and candidates who rely solely on applying through job boards often face lower response rates.

Ignoring the Digital Footprint: Candidates who neglect their online presence—whether it’s an outdated LinkedIn profile or a lack of engagement on professional platforms—are missing opportunities. Employers are increasingly looking at digital footprints as part of their evaluation process.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the final quarter of the year, I’m optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead. Whether you’re a recruiter, hiring manager, or job seeker, there’s a lot to be hopeful about. The key is to stay proactive, keep learning, and remain engaged with your industry.

Thank you for being a part of the Recruitment Made Easy community over the past year. I look forward to continuing this journey with you, helping you navigate the ever-changing world of recruitment and hiring.

"I had an interview a few weeks ago with the owner, and on my way out, I was told that I was a top candidate. After waiting a week, I received an email asking me to complete a quick project, which I did. I then waited another week, only to be told that I now had to speak with the owner's son. After speaking with him, he told me to expect an offer. However, two days later, I received an email from the recruiter informing me that I was no longer under consideration. I have never been so disappointed in a process. It was clear that the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing."
