The Canadian Federal Election: How Will It Impact Jobs, the Economy, and Where Will Opportunities Grow Next?

Canada’s 2025 federal election is over, but for businesses, workers, and job seekers, the real story is just beginning.

With a new government forming — and a shifting economic landscape ahead — there are key trends that recruiters, hiring managers, and professionals need to watch closely. The next 6 to 18 months will bring changes across trade policy, tariffs, government investment, and the workforce itself.

Let’s break it down:

Tariffs, Trade, and Domestic Growth: New Rules, New Opportunities One of the major campaign promises centred around renegotiating trade deals and reviewing tariffs on imported goods, especially from outside North America.

What does that mean?

Tariff adjustments could make imported goods — such as certain manufacturing components, agricultural products, and electronics — more expensive. Canadian-made goods and services could become more competitive both at home and internationally. Companies with agile supply chains and a focus on domestic production may benefit from new federal incentives and grants.

Sectors like clean-tech manufacturing, food and beverage production, automotive parts, and technology hardware stand to see a major boost. Meanwhile, companies that rely heavily on low-cost imports may need to adapt quickly or face margin pressure.

The bottom line: "Made in Canada" is poised to become not just a marketing slogan, but an economic imperative — and a hiring catalyst.

Employment

Here’s what to expect:

Traditional energy sectors, like oil and gas, may face slowdowns as new environmental policies push for net-zero targets. However, many of these companies are already pivoting toward green energy investments.

  • Tech and AI sectors are expected to accelerate hiring, fueled by both private investment and public funding initiatives.

  • Healthcare expansion will continue at full steam, as aging demographics and healthcare innovation drive growth in hospitals, biotech, and mental health services.

  • Construction and skilled trades will thrive due to federal infrastructure projects, public housing commitments, and a push for renewable energy facilities.

  • Small businesses and entrepreneurs may receive new support through small business tax cuts and innovation grants, creating even more jobs in local communities.

In short: unemployment rates may stay steady overall — but mobility within the job market will increase dramatically. Workers who reskill, upskill, or pivot sectors will be in the best position to succeed.

Which Industries Are Poised for Hiring Surges?

Looking closer, some industries stand out as future hiring leaders:

  1. Public Sector & Policy

  • Why: Expansion of government initiatives around infrastructure, healthcare, and climate action.

What Job Seekers and Recruiters Should Do Now

If you're a recruiter, hiring manager, or job seeker, now is the time to get strategic.

  • Focus on Future Skills: Prioritize roles tied to green energy, technology, healthcare, and trades.

  • Stay Agile: Be ready to pivot sectors if necessary — many industries will look for transferable skills.

  • Expand Your Network: Especially in emerging industries where new relationships will open doors first.

  • Look for Growth Programs: Keep an eye out for new federal funding announcements, grants, and wage subsidy programs designed to stimulate hiring.

  • Position Yourself as a Leader in Change: Companies are hungry for people who can help them navigate uncertainty — make yourself invaluable.

A Positive Outlook for the Canadian Workforce

The truth is, elections create change — and change creates new momentum.

We believe that Canada’s workforce is incredibly well-positioned to meet these challenges and capitalize on new opportunities. Technology will keep creating jobs faster than it eliminates them. Healthcare and green energy will drive a new generation of economic leadership. Skilled trades and local manufacturing will find themselves in higher demand than they’ve seen in decades.

At Recruitment Made Easy, we're excited about the future — and we're committed to helping recruiters, candidates, and businesses navigate the road ahead with confidence.

Stay tuned: We'll be providing monthly updates on industry-specific hiring trends, emerging job markets, and exclusive strategies for staying ahead in this fast-changing environment.

You can’t make this stuff up

(*Disclaimer: these are real experiences provided by RME's community of job seekers and hiring managers)

After months of job searching, I finally got a break. New tariffs on imported solar components had boosted local manufacturing, and a Canadian solar panel company needed workers fast. With my experience in quality control, I was hired within a week. "One door closed, but this one opened, and it’s better than I ever expected."
